WHAT SHOULD I DO?
HOW TO USE THIS “WHAT” SECTION
This section is organized around four “tiers” of action. The first tier is to first calculate your carbon footprint, enabling you to understand the details of how the various aspects of your life impact the climate. Tiers Two through Four are organized somewhat subjectively based on what I loosely call the “effort/cost to impact ratio.” Tier Two highlights steps you can easily take today that have real impact. Actions in Tiers Three and Four are either difficult or expensive, but yield major carbon reductions. I’ve used this tiered approach to help folks prioritize their efforts; people often dedicate a good deal of time and/or money to certain steps but miss low-hanging fruit that in aggregate might yield more benefits.
Within Tiers Two through Four, actions are then organized by life sector—for example shelter, transportation, food, and so on.
The action/tier/sector categorizations are certainly subject to debate; consistent with this website, I encourage you to not get bogged down and let the perfect be the enemy of the good. And hey, if something calls to you in Tier Four now, go for it!
